Supporting Worcester’s African Community with ACE

ACE

Worcester, Massachusetts, has long been a place where people come to build something new for themselves, their families, and their future.

With over 25,000 African immigrants and refugees, Worcester is home to one of the largest populations in the country.

Many arrive with a bright vision of achieving the American dream but, more often than not, are met with immense challenges.

For youth, that can mean entering school with interrupted or limited formal education, in addition to learning a new language and adapting to an unfamiliar system.

For parents, it means navigating employment, education, and financial systems that look completely different from what they have known, all while supporting their families.

Across the community, barriers like language access, income instability, and limited access to resources can make it harder to find stability and opportunity. For many families, these challenges are not temporary. They are part of the long process of starting over.

Overcoming these barriers is the sole mission of organizations like African Community Education (ACE).

ACE has become a cornerstone of support for hundreds of local families, offering after-school programs, youth mentorship, adult education, workforce development, and family outreach. Their work helps individuals not just adjust but actually flourish in their new environment.

Since moving into their new space on Gage Street in Worcester, ACE has been able to expand its reach significantly.

Today, they serve over 200 families through outreach efforts and support more than 100 youth and 120 adult learners through educational programming. ACE’s services are crucial to building stability, confidence, and long-term opportunity for African immigrants and refugees.

With the growth of families and increasing needs, ACE launched the “Living Together” Campaign, focused on renovating its facility and expanding programming.

As a strong advocate for immigrant and refugee support, Central One committed $50,000 to bring ACE’s vision to life, with $10,000 distributed each year. This investment helps fund critical renovations, creating welcoming spaces that encourage learning and connection.

Beyond the space itself, these donations also support ongoing financial education workshops for both high school students and adults in the ACE community. Each session breaks down financial topics such as budgeting, saving, and building credit in a way that meets people where they are.

Financial confidence comes from having the tools to make informed decisions, plan ahead, and create stability over time.

Giving underprivileged communities, like those served by ACE with education, support, and opportunity, is incredibly meaningful to us. We know this knowledge helps individuals adjust to life in the United States and can be shared across generations.

We are proud to stand alongside ACE today and every day.
