Central One Helps Build Playhouses for the Children of Veteran Families

Central One Team: Operation Playhouse

Playtime is an important part of childhood.

Beyond having fun, it helps children build social skills, develop emotional regulation, and stay physically active. But for many children in military and veteran families, opportunities for play, or spaces to call their own, aren’t always easy to come by.

The Challenges Military Families Face

Frequent moves, changing environments, and the demands of service can make it harder for children to feel a sense of stability. For some, that may also mean time spent apart from a parent during deployment or navigating the transition back to everyday life.

In the midst of all that change, even small constants can make a meaningful difference.

That’s why programs like Habitat for Humanity’s Operation Playhouse can have such a meaningful impact.

Building Something Bigger Together

Over the past month, Central One employees participated in Operation Playhouse, a unique community initiative that brings volunteers together to build playhouses for the children of active service members and veterans.

The event calls for teams from local organizations to spend the day learning how to build a playhouse from the ground up. From painting to drilling to roofing and assembly, every detail is completed by volunteers working side-by-side toward a common goal.

While the building process was rewarding, the highlight of the day came when it was time to present the finished playhouse to its new owner. Seeing the excitement on the child’s face was a powerful reminder of what the day was really about.

A playhouse may seem simple, but for a child, it can become a castle, a clubhouse, a secret hideaway, or anything else their imagination dreams up. Knowing we played a small role in creating a space for those memories made every hour of hard work worthwhile.

Events like Operation Playhouse also provide an opportunity for our team to collaborate outside of the workplace while giving back to the communities we love.

Most importantly, it allows us to show our appreciation for active service members and veterans whose sacrifices help keep our communities safe.

We’re grateful to Habitat for Humanity for organizing this incredible program and for allowing us to be part of something that brings so much joy to local families.
