A Culture Built with Purpose: Central One Named a Boston Globe Top Place to Work

A strong workplace culture doesn’t just randomly happen; it’s intentionally built by people who care about one another and the communities they serve. That’s why we’re grateful (and genuinely honored) to share that Central One Federal Credit Union has been named one of The Boston Globe’s Top Places to Work for 2025.

We’ve always valued creating a workplace where people feel supported, heard, and proud of the work they do, and receiving this recognition is a testament to that effort.

A Year of Meaningful Recognition

Being named a Top Place to Work by The Boston Globe marks our third notable recognition for our employee culture in 2025. Earlier this year, we were also honored by:

  • Earning the #1 Place to Work in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette’s Community Choice Awards

While we’re thankful for these accolades, what matters most to us is that they represent our consistent commitment to our people.

A Culture Built Around People

“Our employees are the heart of Central One…” shared Kerry Crutchley, Chief People and Culture Officer. “… and their dedication, teamwork, and passion are what continue to earn us this recognition. Being recognized as a Top Place to Work by The Boston Globe is incredibly meaningful to us. This recognition reinforces that our continued focus on supporting, engaging with, and investing in our people is making a real impact on our culture. We’re proud of the culture we’ve built together and remain committed to making Central One a place where people truly enjoy coming to work.”

That culture is rooted in connection, flexibility, and open communication. We actively encourage employees to share ideas and feedback through surveys, suggestion boxes, and ongoing conversations, because there is nothing better than a workplace that listens and evolves with the needs of its people.

What Working at Central One Looks Like

Our approach to employee experience involves supporting people not just employees, but as humans who have a life outside of work. Some of the ways we do that include:

  • Flexible hybrid work schedules, with the ability to work from home three days a week.
  • Generous paid time off (starting at 3 weeks), encouraging rest and balance.
  • Employee recognition programs, including peer-to-peer appreciation and annual awards.
  • Paid volunteer time, so employees can give back to the causes they care about.
  • Education benefits, offering discounts on higher education through local partnerships.
  • Fun, community-building activities, from themed days and luncheons to WooSox games and local outings.

We also offer committees focused on well-being and culture, including our Wellness Committee and Culture Champions Committee, that allow employees to shape the workplace they want to be part of.

Supporting Growth at Every Stage

One key factor in understanding our employees is recognizing that growth isn’t one-size-fits-all. Whether that growth is within the credit union or an expansion of their personal skill set, we foster a productive environment for employees to advance. One of the ways we accomplish this is through our Career Development Program, which provides skill-building opportunities, career coaching, and personalized guidance.

We also support self-directed education, giving employees time and resources to research, take webinars, attend conferences, and pursue other learning opportunities, all in the spirit of continuous improvement.

At every stage of their career with Central One, employees are encouraged to work toward goals that matter to them. These efforts not only strengthen our credit union but also contribute to the happiness and fulfillment of our employees. And to us, that’s what matters most!

Looking Ahead

Being named a Top Place to Work by The Boston Globe is a heartfelt milestone, underscoring the importance of showing up for our employees, just as they show up for our members and our communities every day.
